چکیده

We employ the string/gauge theory correspondence to study properties of strongly coupled quark-gluon plasmas in thermal gauge theories with a large number of colors and flavors. In particular, we analyze non-critical string duals of conformal (S)QCD, as well as ten dimensional wrapped fivebrane duals of SQCD–like theories. We study general properties of the dual plasmas, including the drag force exerted on a probe quark and the jet quenching parameter. We find that these plasma observables depend on the number of colors and flavors in the “QCD dual”. In the ten dimensional case we find a non trivial drag coefficient but a vanishing jet quenching parameter. We comment on the relation of this result with total screening and argue that the same features are shared by all known plasmas dual to fivebranes in ten dimensions. We also construct new D5 black hole solutions with spherical horizon and show that they exhibit the same features. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

Equilibration Rates in a Strongly Coupled Nonconformal Quark-Gluon Plasma.

We initiate the study of equilibration rates of strongly coupled quark-gluon plasmas in the absence of conformal symmetry. We primarily consider a supersymmetric mass deformation within N=2^{*} gauge theory and use holography to compute quasinormal modes of a variety of scalar operators, as well as the energy-momentum tensor. In each case, the lowest quasinormal frequency, which provides an app...

Bright branes for strongly coupled plasmas

We use holographic techniques to study photon production in a class of finite temperature, strongly coupled, large-Nc SU(Nc) quark-gluon plasmas with Nf ≪ Nc quark flavours. Our results are valid to leading order in the electromagnetic coupling constant but non-perturbatively in the SU(Nc) interactions. The spectral function of electromagnetic currents and other related observables exhibit an i...

Dynamical Mass Generation in Landau gauge QCD ∗

We summarise results on the infrared behaviour of Landau gauge QCD from the Green’s functions approach and lattice calculations. Approximate, nonperturbative solutions for the ghost, gluon and quark propagators as well as first results for the quark-gluon vertex from a coupled set of Dyson-Schwinger equations are compared to quenched and unquenched lattice results. Almost quantitative agreement...

Complex Plasmas as a Model for the Quark-Gluon-Plasma Liquid

The quark-gluon plasma, possibly created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, is a strongly interacting many-body parton system. By comparison with strongly coupled electromagnetic plasmas (classical and non-relativistic) it is concluded that the quarkgluon plasma could be in the liquid phase. As an example for a strongly coupled plasma, complex plasmas, which show liquid and even solid p...

Static Potential and Local Color Fields in Unquenched Three-Dimensional Lattice QCD

String breaking by dynamical quarks in (2+1)-d lattice QCD is demonstrated in this project, by measuring the static potential and the local color-electric field strength between a heavy quark and antiquark pair at large separations. Simulations are done for unquenched SU(2) color with two flavors of staggered quarks. An improved gluon action is used which allows simulations to be done on coarse...
